What is contract FTL transport?

Contract FTL is an ongoing partnership model in which shipments are planned on the basis of agreed routes, volumes, time windows and operational rules. In practice this means far greater predictability than ad-hoc spot orders: the client knows who they are working with, how communication works, what the service conditions are and how recurring shipments are handled.

Unlike one-off orders, the key features here are route consistency, fleet availability, a dedicated operational contact, predictable terms and joint volume planning.

FTL (Full Truck Load) means full-vehicle transport in which a single client's cargo occupies the entire space of the vehicle or trailer and travels without consolidation with other shippers' goods.

When does it make sense to switch to contract FTL?

Contract FTL works best when your business regularly ships full loads on the same or similar routes. It is worth considering this model if:

you regularly book domestic or international transport,
you have recurring routes and fixed loading and unloading windows,
you need guaranteed trailer availability in advance — including during peak season,
you want to reduce dependence on spot markets and freight exchanges,
a single point of contact and a clear communication process matter to you,
you expect transparent billing terms, documentation and cargo liability.

Typical sectors: manufacturing, distribution, retail, FMCG (ambient), industrial materials, packaging, automotive, construction, B2B e-commerce.

Steady production line

Regular collections from a manufacturing plant on recurring routes — with agreed loading windows.

Warehouse replenishment

Cyclic full-trailer deliveries to central or regional distribution centres.

Export / import

Fixed international lanes — Central & Western Europe, Baltic states, Scandinavia.

Seasonal shipments

A flexible transport buffer for seasonal volume peaks — planned well in advance.

What does contract FTL with Gab-Trans include?

We begin by analysing your routes, shipment frequency, cargo type, trailer requirements and loading/unloading schedules. On that basis we select the service model: fixed routes, cyclic shipments, a seasonal flex buffer or a hybrid model.

Contract FTL or spot orders — which should you choose?

Spot orders are a good solution for irregular shipments, changing directions or one-off needs. Contract FTL works better when transport is a permanent part of your supply chain and requires greater predictability.

Choose contract FTL if…

  • you ship full trailers every week or more frequently,
  • your routes are recurring or can be planned ahead,
  • you need predictable costs and guaranteed vehicle availability,
  • you want a single dedicated contact instead of renegotiating every time.

Choose spot orders if…

  • your shipments are sporadic or one-off,
  • destinations change from load to load,
  • you need a vehicle at short notice, outside any regular schedule.

In-house fleet and service facilities as a contract FTL advantage

In contract FTL, what matters is not just having trucks but maintaining their consistent availability. Gab-Trans combines transport operations with an in-house fleet and workshop — an authorised Volvo Trucks and Renault Trucks service centre in Suwałki.

Keeping the fleet serviced in our own workshop directly affects vehicle condition, on-time performance and communication during shipment execution.

On-time performance

Punctuality of collections and deliveries on agreed lanes.

Communication

Coordinator response time and shipment status-update rules.

Documentation

Completeness and turnaround of transport documents.

Availability

Vehicle availability on agreed lanes — including during peak season.

Claims

Number of claims and a transparent claims-handling procedure.

Rate stability

Stability of agreed terms throughout the contract period.

Is contract FTL right for your volume?

Answer three questions and we will suggest which service model best fits your situation.

How many full trailers do you ship per month?
What are your routes like?
Do you experience seasonal volume peaks?

This result is indicative — the final service model is agreed individually after analysing your routes and volumes.

Frequently asked questions

How does contract FTL differ from standard FTL transport?
Standard FTL is a one-off full truck load shipment order. Contract FTL is an ongoing partnership: pre-agreed lanes, frequency, time windows, communication rules and billing terms. The client does not need to find a carrier and negotiate terms from scratch every time.
When does it pay to move to contract FTL?
Most often when a company regularly ships full trailers on recurring lanes — e.g. weekly or more — and needs predictable vehicle availability, stable terms and a single point of contact instead of renegotiating on the spot market each time.
Does a contract FTL mean a dedicated truck for the client?
Not necessarily. We select the service model to match volume: this can be fixed lanes, cyclic runs, a flexible seasonal buffer or a hybrid model. The scope and allocation of vehicles is agreed individually at the needs-assessment stage.
What data is needed to quote for contract FTL?
Lane (from → to), number of shipments per week or month, cargo type, weight or pallet count, preferred trailer type, loading and unloading windows, and expected start date. The more complete the data, the faster we can prepare a proposal.
Does Gab-Trans handle regular international lanes?
Yes. We operate domestic and international haulage — including Central and Western Europe, the Baltic states and Scandinavia. Availability and service model for specific lanes are confirmed individually.
Are shipments covered by carrier liability insurance?
Yes, all Gab-Trans shipments are covered by carrier liability insurance (OCP/CMR). Details of the cover are discussed during the service-terms agreement stage.
How does communication with the transport coordinator work?
Contract clients have direct access to a dedicated transport coordinator. During onboarding we agree status-update rules, response times and the contact path for non-standard situations — removing the need for ad-hoc arrangements with every order.
Can fixed lanes be combined with additional seasonal shipments?
Yes — that is the hybrid model: fixed lanes under contract plus a flex buffer for seasonal volume peaks or extra shipments. The rules for using the buffer are agreed jointly at the model-selection stage.
Which industries benefit most from contract FTL?
Primarily manufacturing, distribution, retail, FMCG (ambient), industrial materials, packaging, automotive, construction and B2B e-commerce — wherever full trailers run regularly on recurring lanes.
Is contract FTL better than a freight exchange?
It depends on the nature of your shipments. A freight exchange suits one-off or emergency loads. For regular volumes, a contract delivers predictable costs, planned vehicle availability and a consistent communication standard — none of which the spot market can guarantee.
